Pair of Mid Century Winchendon Floating Top Side Tables - McCobb?

They say two is better than one, and that certainly applies to this wonderful pair of 1950s table made by Winchendon, the firm perhaps best known for manufacturing Paul McCobb's Planner Group of furniture.

We're not sure if these tables were designed by McCobb, but we are certain that we love the design - especially the floating top.  Other small details add to the pleasing design, including the gently splayed and tapered legs and brass fittings.

The tables feature solid wood construction, hard white laminate surface, and the original black finish.  Winchendon paper label (still mostly intact) on the underside of both tables.

Both tables are in excellent vintage condition - they strong and sturdy.

Dimensions:  20 3/4" W x 23 1/2" L x 23 1/2" H

SOLD.  Thanks, Kathleen @ Oak Park!

Fantastic Mid Century Canadian Fleetwood Hi Fi Stereo

Gotcha Modern! loves mid century design from north o' the border, and this wonderful stereo reflects some of the neat mid century design from our northern friends.

Manufactured by Fleetwood Corp. in Montreal, this stereo features a Garrard turntable above, and radio/tuner in the lower compartment.  Open the doors, and the unit easily slides out to greet you!

Two speakers complete the set.

The pieces are made of walnut veneer with neat silver (aluminum?) accents, and all pieces are in excellent vintage condition.  Even the original smoke-grey plastic cover is in excellent shape.

The radio works - as do the speakers - and the turntable is untested (not hooked up).

The stereo is 26" in diameter, and 20" tall. The speakers are 18 1/2" tall and 15 1/2" in diameter.

Would make quite a statement in a mid-century decor - and you could easily modify to accommodate wireless transmission from an iPad.

Sold.  Thanks, Chris @ Chicago!

Percival Lafer Leather + Steel Scoop Lounge Chair - Signed!

Percival Lafer is perhaps Brazil's most famous furniture designer of the 1960s - 70s.  He often worked with exotic woods (rosewood, etc.) and leather, and over the last decade or so his work has garnered a growing appreciation that is well deserved.

This wonderful lounge chair is an unusual departure from his work in wood.

The chair features leather upholstery and chromed solid-steel legs that slightly taper towards the back of the chair - a subtle and pleasing design element.

The chair is in good vintage condition.  The leather has a nice, worn feel to it.  There are two small areas on the seat where the seams have come apart and need to be sewn back together.  The chromed legs are in very good condition, with just minor oxidation and no severe pitting.

The original paper lable is still largely intact on the underside of the chair.

Dimensions are 34" high, 29" wide, and approximately 30" deep.

A wonderful and unique designer chair, and a guaranteed conversation starter!

SOLD.  Thanks, Margie @ Chicago!

Paul McCobb Maple Trapezoid Two Tier Side Table - Connoisseur Collection

Gotcha Modern! offered a similar McCobb side table a few months ago - that one was octagonal - and now we offer its cousin in a trapezoidal form!

This example is from McCobb's Connoisseur Collection for H. Sacks and Sons. Most of McCobb's designs for this line featured brass "X" stretchers for the legs. This particular model retains the brass collars around each leg, but the stretchers are replaced with a much more practical glass shelf. Notice the bow-tie supports under the table top - an example of McCobb's understated design. Tapered legs. A single drawer.

The table is in very good condition and is structurally sound.  The glass is excellent condition, and the drawer slides easily and smoothly.

Dimensions: 20" H x 26" D x 18" wide at front x 24" wide at back

A wonderful designer table.

SOLD.  Thanks, Noi @ Chicago!
