Pair of Maize 1950s Krueger Fiberglass Bucket Armchairs - Eames For Less!

Made by Wisconsin-based Krueger Metal Products in the 50s and 60s, these chairs were made to compete with the Charles and Ray Eames-designed fiberglass arm chair manufactured by Herman Miller. Looking at the two different versions side-by-side, it's difficult to tell them apart.

Vintage Eames fiberglass armchairs in like condition command $300 and up apiece. While folks may aspire to own Eames, limited resources (and perhaps a dose of common sense) may preclude a pair of Eames in the living room.

Savvy design mavens and budget-conscious modernists have in recent years gravitated toward the Krueger fiberglass chairs. Same great look at a fraction of the price of an Eames chair. Some of these folks will keep their Kruegers forever, while others use and appreciate them until the time they spring for Eames. Either way, they enjoy living with great design - and, isn't that what it's all about?

These chairs are in very good vintage condition. All shock mounts are present, as are the gliders on the legs. A few scruffs here and there (as one would expect with 50 year old furniture), but all-in-all, the set is in excellent shape.

Herman Miller Upholstered Shell Arm Chair - Charles Eames design

The real deal.  A Charles Eames-designed shell armchair by Herman Miller, on an aluminum swivel base on casters.

Excellent structural condition. No chips or cracks.  Rubber trim edge in good condition.  Original fabric (perhaps Alexander Girard?) shows signs of wear.

Signed Herman Miller, and the Herman Miller label is still present.

Pair of Danish Hans C. Andersen Side Tables - Rosewood & Teak

A pair of side tables - one in rosewood, the other in teak - by noted designer Hans C. Andersen.

The larger of the two is rosewood, with wonderful graining.  The top should probably be refinished - see the wear in the pics - or could be used as-is if you employ a table cover.  A couple of the screws are replacements.  Signed "Made in Denmark ~ Designed by Hans C. Andersen ~ Denmark" on the underside.  Dimensions:  19" high, and 23" diameter.

The smaller table is solid teak.  This model is commonly found with a laminate top, but this example is the scarce solid teak version.  Excellent condition throughout save for a crack in one of the legs.  Can be used as-is, but it should be repaired if you plan to set heav(ier) items on the table.  Also signed "Made in Denmark ~ Designed by Hans C. Andersen ~ Denmark" on the underside.  Dimensions: 18" high, and 14" diameter.

Pair of 1960s Danish Walnut & Upholstered Club Chairs - Jacques Guillon?

Statement pieces.

Those items that, upon entering a room, capture and hold your gaze. Might even induce a vocal, "Wow!"   For some, it's a "take-my-breath-away" moment.   These chairs are statement pieces.

A pair of 1960s club chairs. Super-sleek angular profile, with deep seat. The chairs feature solid walnut bases, with gently splayed rear legs. Solid walnut armrests. Original wool orange tweed upholstery. Comfortable.

Excellent condition, and the finish is remarkably well preserved. The upholstery has been steam-cleaned and ready for another 50 years of use.

Dimensions: 28" high, 29" wide, 31" deep.

The chairs are unsigned and may be Danish in origin. However, the angular design bears some resemblence to Jacques Guillon & Associates seating for Dorval (Montreal) airport in the 1960s. Whomever the designer, they are an iconic pair of chairs, n'est pas?

Note: These chairs are currently being used on the set of Finding Franklin, a short film set in the early 1960s and being shot in Chicago.  The chairs will be available for viewing, purchase, and delivery on 16 June.

1950s Hollywood Glam Gold Swivel Slipper Chair

Can't you just picture Ava Gardner sitting in this chair, stiff cocktail resting on the table next to her, with one hand dangling a cigarette, the smoke from which gently spirals upward, the other hand outstretched as she admires the day's manicure, cradling the receiver against her shoulder as she and Sinatra finalize their evening's plans?  

A wonderful 1950s swivel slipper chair with Hollywood glam-gold upholstery.  Comfortable, and well-constructed.  Swivels easily 360 degrees.  Perfect for the living room, and would make a nice accent chair in the bedroom.

Set of 4 Mid Century Country Modern Armchairs - McCobb?

This is an outstanding set of four chairs that give a nod to some of the iron/wood designs by Paul McCobb.

Think of these as "country mid century modern."  Country notions with a design aesthetic that is distintictly modern and forward thinking.  The combination makes for a refreshing departure from the nice, but admittedly ubiquitous, Herman Miller Eames chairs.  Note the nice splayed legs, and tapered back.  Carved details.

A single would make a fantastic accent chair, a pair would nicely frame a cool vintage coffee table, and the set of four, well, they would look stunning around most any kind of dining table.

The chairs are extremely well made.  Wrought iron frames with metal glides.  The seat bottoms are solid wood planks, over an inch thick, and appear to be maple.  The chair back is bent wood, and the arms are solid wood (maple).  While the chairs are heavy and substantial, they retain a visual lightness that belies their solid construction.

Dimensions:  23 1/2" high, 21 1/2" deep, 24" wide.

Danish modern walnut floor lamp with suspended glass globe

What a wonderful and over-the-top design! 

This vintage Danish modern floor lamp deftly contrasts graceful biomorphic elements in the base and sweeping arms with the angular-ness of the wood slat globe housing.
The lamp is well made:  solid walnut, metal details, and glass globe.  Circa 1960s.

44" high and 19" at widest point.

In excellent vintage condition.  Works well, and is ready for use - and conversation-inducing oohs and aahs!

1950s Fiberglass Swivel Bucket Chair ~ Eames - esque!

As Gotcha Modern! has noted previously, why spend hundreds on a Herman Miller 1950s fiberglass chair, when you can enjoy nearly the same thing for a fraction of an Eames example?

Consider this excellent fiberglass swivel bucket chair made by Douglas Furniture Corp. in Chicago.  Beautiful fiberglass graining, nice swivel action, and darn comfortable.  And the color - dark grey - will go with just about anything.

Label still present on underside of the chair.

An iconic mid-century look.

Small Mid Century Chest - Mainline by Hooker

Ever need just a nice small chest for next to a sofa or bed?  This cute little example just might be the solution. 

Hooker made very nice furniture in the 50s and 60s, and this small side chest is from their "Mainline" collection.  Very well made, and heavy for a smaller piece of furniture.  Nice tapered legs.

In very good vintage condition, and drawers work smoothly.
